Our approach to inclusivity

We started UN//SCENE Festival with a mission to champion unheard voices.

What this means for us:

We strive for equity

As event organisers, we face two conflicting needs: the need to make decisions, and the need to ensure we are not putting ourselves in the centre of them. With that in mind, we are checking our biases at every step. We haven’t done this before, so we’re taking a first principles approach to make a difference.

We are striving to remove barriers - where we see them, and where they are pointed out to us.

We’ll do everything we can to make this feel like your festival.

We commit to inclusivity

We want UN//SCENE Festival to feel inclusive to everyone in the room. Where no one is othered. Where any needs you have are considered.

Inclusive thinking sits at the heart of how we are considering the programming and the event experience.

We are factoring in as many perspectives as we can and we’ll measure success in the feedback you give us at the end.

We seek diversity

No matter your race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, class, disability, neurodiversity, religious belief, or lived experience, we want to see you here.

We will review our submissions based on merit, knowing that a diverse range of voices is necessary to achieve the aims of the festival, and will be required to meet our assessment criteria. And knowing that it’s not about who is ‘in’ or ‘out’, but that the result is better because of the diverse voices we showcase.

No matter who you are, we want you to say at the end: “that felt great”.

Accessibility

Due to the nature of the venue, there is a small area of the festival that people with mobility issues may find challenging. We are keen to make sure the event is as accessible as it can be in these circumstances, so please email us with any mobility issues, or specific accessibility requests, and we will arrange priority seating for the accessible areas.

While we cannot provide 1:1 support, we can offer tickets for carers and support people if required.
